Toujours en trio, le pianiste israélien s’engage une fois de plus sur le sentier de sublimes narrations à tiroirs. Des mélodies aussi bien héritées du répertoire jazz que de la musique traditionnelle orientale voire de la musique classique occidentale. Que ses compositions soient introspectives ou ouvertement provocatrices, Shai Maestro conserve ce même toucher souple et cette même langue épurée.
After four albums full of grace which stamped his name on the contemporary jazz scene, Shai Maestro completed another achievement in 2018 with The Dream Thief, on the prestigious ECM label. Still playing in a trio, the Israeli pianist once again embarks on the path of sublime interwoven narratives. Melodies inherited as much from the jazz repertoire as from traditional oriental music and from classical Western music. Whether his compositions are introspective or openly provocative, Shai Maestro retains the same supple touch and the same unadorned language.
