How could we not honour the theme of the Spanish ‘folias’, which date back to the fifteenth century and have survived the ages? Lucile Boulanger, as an expert and poetess of the viola da gamba, will on this repertoire with two key pieces of the eighteenth century: the famous variations by Marin Marais and Corelli’s La Follia in a version for viola preserved in a French manuscript. In counterpoint, the trio will play Forqueray’s formidable sonatas and works by Michele Mascitti, an Italian who found refuge in Paris and was influenced by the Corelli-inspired aesthetic in vogue in Europe.
