Pierre Liebaert collected ninety postcards of Mons from more than a century ago and then photographed the same places from the exact same spot, revealing the inevitable passage of time separating the two pictures. Through the magic of a subtle video montage, views of the past are imperceptibly and vertiginously transformed before our eyes into their present-day appearance. For the occasion, the musicians of Musiques Nouvelles have created a soundtrack in the style of a ‘sound meditation’ that merges, soars and moves, providing a synaesthetic dimension to this gripping journey back in time.
