To mark his 80th birthday in 2017, Pierre Bartholomée was commissioned by Les Festivals de Wallonie to dedicate the pair of pieces Toccata & Scena to the Clematis Ensemble. The confrontation between the works of Claudio Monteverdi and Pierre Bartholomée was met with great enthusiasm by musicians and audience alike. The new programme, Miroirs vénitiens, amplifies this confrontation by adding to this dialogue the baroque Biagio Marini and Giovanni Legrenzi and the contemporaries Michel Fourgon and Benoît Mernier. Is this rapprochement of what seem to be opposing languages a utopia?
